Ahead of the next – and final – episode, Joanna Page, who plays Stacey, has put her foot down when it comes to one area.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast, Joanna said: “I just hope that I haven’t signed on to be running around on Barry beach in a bikini because I’m not doing that at 47.”

After weeks of speculation and denials, co-writers Corden and Jones confirmed there will be one last trip to Barry after all.

The pair play main characters Smithy and Nessa in addition to writing the scripts.

When Gavin and Stacey‘s 2019 Christmas special aired, it was the most-watched non-sporting event in a decade, attracting over 18million viewers.

However, viewers were left desperately wanting more when the episode ended on a nail-biting cliffhanger.

Nessa got down on one knee and proposed to Smithy, who happens to be the father of her child – Neil Noel Edmund Smith.

In fact, Joanna said she was as surprised as the viewers when the proposal came about.

She explained: “I am the same as everyone else. I can’t wait to find out what has happened.

“I remember all those years ago reading the script for the last special, and I was doing it on my phone.

‘I got to the end, and it said, “Nessa goes down one knee”, and I remember scrolling through thinking, ”That can’t be the end”.

“I am the same as everybody, what happens?”

Gavin and Stacey also features an ensemble cast playing the big, blended family.

Former EastEnders actor Larry Lamb, known as villain Archie Mitchell, plays Gavin’s dad Mick, while actress Alison Steadman plays his mum, Pam.

On Stacey’s side of the family, comedian and Would I Lie To You? host Rob Brydon stars as her protective uncle Bryn

Completing the core line-up is Melanie Walters as Stacey’s mother, Gwen.

Fans of the BBC comedy will surely be counting down the days until Christmas…

Gavin and Stacey is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
