It’s broken my heart, says Tess Daly as Strictly star is left sobbing on the side of the motorway over daughter

TESS Daly said she was left heartbroken and sobbing on the motorway after her daughter left for university.

The Strictly Come Dancing host was overwhelmed with emotion after dropping off 19-year-old Phoebe with her husband Vernon Kay.

She confessed: “I remember silently sobbing all the way back down the motorway, because she’s my baby, my first born.

“I’m her best friend, really. It broke my heart.”

Tess, who also has a 15-year-old daughter called Amber, added to Hello! magazine: “I was heartbroken just dropping her off and waving goodbye, but it was fine because she was back after a couple of weeks, visiting.

“She comes back quite regularly.”

Phoebe has gone to university to study film and television, while her younger sister has hopes of working in showbiz too.

She previously said: “I like the production and editing side.

“I’d love to act but I’ll leave presenting to my mum and dad. I’m just trying to understand what I want to do.”

Last month Phoebe and her dad Vernon celebrated Father’s Day together in her first-ever photo shoot and interview for Fabulous magazine.

Vernon said at the time, he said: “We made a conscious decision that the girls should be able to choose whether they wanted to be in the spotlight or not.

“I think it’s worked in our favour. Amber is still young, so there’s no way she would do something like this, but Phoebe is an adult now.

“It’s an interesting world with social media, so we said: ‘When you are at the right age to make your own decisions, whether you want to step into this world, be on the cover of Fabulous, then that’s up to you.’

“Phoebe is very mature. She carries herself really well. I’ve got confidence she will know how to deal with it.”
