U.S.-Canada Rivalry Series is headed to San Jose

Rivalry Series between the United States and Canada in women’s hockey is headed to the Bay Area

SAN JOSE – The Rivalry Series between the United States and Canada in women’s hockey is headed to the Bay Area.

USA Hockey announced Tuesday that the American women’s national team will face the Canadian national team in a five-game series across North America. The first stop will be Tech CU Arena in San Jose, located next to Sharks Ice.

The game in San Jose will be on Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. It will be followed by games in West Valley City, Utah, on Nov. 8 and Boise, Idaho, on Nov. 10. The final two games will be in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on Feb. 6 and Summerside, Prince Edward Island, on Feb. 8.

Tickets for the Nov. 6 game at Tech CU Arena will go on sale at a later date.

NHL Network is expected to have live broadcasts of all five games.

The U.S. and Canada are easily the two biggest powers in women’s hockey.

Since women’s hockey was introduced as an Olympic sport in 1998, the two nations have met six out of seven times in the Olympic gold medal game. The Americans won in 1998 and 2018, while Canada captured Olympic gold in 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022.

The two countries have also met in every women’s hockey world championship gold medal game, except one, since the tournament began in 1990. Canada has won world championship gold 13 times, and the U.S. has 10 gold medals.

The Rivalry Series was introduced by USA Hockey and Hockey Canada in 2018-19 to provide additional visibility for women’s hockey and showcase the best players in the world.
