The Royal Mint appoints global head of growth for precious metals

The Royal Mint has announced that Nick Bowkett will take on the role of head of Growth for precious metals, leading its expansion into new markets globally.

The Royal Mint is the UK’s home of precious metals, having worked with them for over 1,100 years. Today, it operates a “thriving” precious metals investment business, which saw a record number of customers investing in precious metals in 2023, with a 7% increase in investors year-on-year.

During the last four years, the wholesale channel, under Bowkett’s leadership, has grown by almost 320%.

With over 14 years’ experience within bullion, Bowkett will spearhead The Royal Mint’s precious metals growth globally; growing The Royal Mint’s market share within the D2C and B2B customer markets.

He will focus on creating premium and innovative products – including developing corporate and premium precious metals gifting solutions – as well as engaging with central banks.

This newly created role will leverage Bowkett’s sales expertise, gained from his experience with international brands and high-net-worth clients.

Additionally, The Royal Mint’s Precious Metals expansion has also seen Kirstie Hopkins promoted to head of Business-to-Business Precious Metals sales.

With nine years of experience in bullion, liaising with key global customers, Kirstie will oversee the strategic global sales of The Royal Mint’s bullion coins and products, including the development and innovation of new products.

Andrew Dickey, director of Precious Metals at The Royal Mint, said: “The Royal Mint is transforming as a business and over the last five years, our precious metals investment division has grown considerably.

“Our expertise in precious metals means we’re known across the world for our physical bullion coins and bars, as well as our digital and financial products. With a growing portfolio of products and a dedicated and skilled team, we’ll continue to innovate; further establishing ourselves as a global leader in precious metals investment. I am delighted for Nick and looking forward to working closely with him in the new role.”

Bowkett added: “This represents an exciting new opportunity for our 1,100-year-old business. We are reinventing ourselves for the future and expanding on the success of our precious metals division. I look forward to engaging with new and existing customers internationally; sharing The Royal Mint’s craftsmanship story and expertise within precious metals.”
