Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur could be without most of his senior centre-backs for much of pre-season, thus handing Ange Postecoglou a potential headache.

Tottenham have started their pre-season training

The players who were not involved in Copa America and the Euros have now returned to Hotspur Way for pre-season training, with captain Heung-min Son being the latest to join the group on Monday.

The players are now being put through their paces at the moment as they get ready for the new season, with a behind-closed-doors friendly scheduled against Cambridge United at the club’s training base this weekend.

The squad will then play against Hearts and QPR next week before flying out to Japan and South Korea later this month to embark on their Asia tour.

At the moment, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Micky van de Ven, Radu Dragusin and Guglielmo Vicario, Cristian Romero, Giovani Lo Celso and Rodrigo Bentancur are missing due to their involvement in the two aforementioned competitions.

Ben Davies could be Tottenham’s only senior central defender

Gold points out that with Romero, Van de Ven and Dragusin all set to have extended holidays, Postecoglou will not have any senior centre-backs to turn to for much of pre-season.

The Australian is also without Alfie Dorrington, who is currently recovering from hamstring surgery and might have to make do with Ashley Phillips and Ben Davies as his pairing in central defence.

I would expect Dragusin to return in time for the pre-season tour to Asia, with Romania being knocked out of the Euros relatively early.

As things stand, it does appear as if Romero, Bentancur and van de Ven will all be missing the trips to Japan and South Korea.
