Another arson blaze reported on UC Berkeley campus

Police did not identify any suspects.

BERKELEY — A fire that authorities said caused minimal damage to a building Monday on the UC Berkeley campus was set intentionally, authorities said.

The fire occurred about 4:20 p.m. atop the Golden Bear Cafe on Sather Road, according to a statement from the university. The cafe is close to Sproul Plaza and the main entrance of the campus.

Investigators determined that the small blaze was “malicious and intentional,” the university said. Nobody was injured.

Police did not identify any suspects and asked anyone with information on the fire to contact university police at 510-642-6760.

The fire Monday followed a series of arson attacks on the campus last month. One of those attacks included a firebombing of a UC police vehicle.

A 34-year-old suspect in that case has been in custody in San Francisco since July 6 without bail amid a federal investigation, authorities said.
