Nicolas Cage recommends this must-see film of his made in Oregon

From "Moonstruck" to "National Treasure," Academy Award-winning actor Nicolas Cage has been in a range of films throughout his career, but one film with Pacific Northwest ties stands out to the actor as a must-see.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – From "Moonstruck" to "National Treasure," Academy Award-winning actor Nicolas Cage has been in a range of films throughout his career, but one film with Pacific Northwest ties stands out to the actor as a must-see.

In an interview with The New Yorker, Cage was asked “At the risk of asking you to pick a favorite, if someone were to say, 'I’ve never seen any of your movies, what should I see?'”

Cage’s response: "Pig."

“It’s something that I think people can get something out of, because tragedy is going to hit all of us at some point. It’s just a matter of when. It’s also a movie that to me is like a folk song. It’s a very quiet, gentle movie, which is the opposite of what we started our conversation with—people thinking I’m crazy,” Cage said.

Reflecting on his role, Cage told The New Yorker, “I’d never done anything like that before where I felt like I got close to putting a meditation on camera, or a haiku."

Released in 2021, "Pig" follows Cage, who plays a Portland chef turned truffle hunter in the wilderness. When his foraging pig goes missing, Cage returns to Portland to find who stole the pig.

A "great deal" of the movie was shot in Portland, Tim Williams, Executive Director of Oregon Film, told KOIN 6 News, including scenes at Huber's, Skyline Tavern, St. John's Beer Porch, and Lincoln Memorial Park. Other scenes were filmed at Blue Heron in Oregon City with scenes in the "woods" filmed around Estacada.

According to IMDB, "Pig" grossed over $3.8 million worldwide.
