Glens Falls hires full-time traffic control assistant

The Glens Fall Police Department hired a full-time Traffic Control Assistant to help enforce parking restrictions in the city.

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- The Glens Fall Police Department hired a full-time Traffic Control Assistant to help enforce parking restrictions in the city. The traffic assistant will work under a supervising police officer and impose the city's parking ordinances, such as the two-hour parking limit.

According to Police Chief Jarred Smith, community members can expect a training and transitional period for the traffic control assistant and drivers. Smith added that the new city official will issue warning notices during the transition until Thursday, Aug. 1, when parking violations will receive citations.

The yearly salary for the role is $38,459, and anyone looking for the city's parking ordinances can find them online. Mayor Bill Collins thanked the police department for their effort in enforcing parking restrictions.

"From the end of the easing of parking rules under COVID-19 restrictions, parking enforcement has been solely in the hands of our police officers," Collins said. "While we thank them for the job they've done, the addition of a Traffic Control Assistant will allow us to efficiently redistribute that parking enforcement work."
