Fire breaks out near Santa Teresa County Park in south San Jose

Fire has reached 2 acres and CalFire is sending units to assist.

A two-alarm vegetation fire broke out early Tuesday afternoon in South San Jose, consuming two acres in about ten minutes but likely growing larger since then, said the San Jose Fire Department.

The fire was reported to San Jose Fire at 12:21 p.m. near the intersection of Santa Teresa Boulevard and Bailey Avenue, said Jake Pisani, public information officer for SJFD. CalFire is involved and sending units to assist, Pisani added.

Santa Teresa Boulevard is closed in both directions between Bailey Avenue and Bayless Drive, he added. SJFD is working with the parks department to evacuate Santa Teresa County Park and all trails, Pisani said.

There is high fire danger and the fire has a medium rate of spread, Pisani said shortly fter 1 p.m.
