Backpacks and lunch bags and art supplies, oh my! Each year the list of back-to-school must-haves seems to grow longer. And for many families, especially in this economy, the cost of all those glue sticks and pencil sharpeners can add up quickly.

This back-to-school season, Target is doing their part to alleviate families’ budgets by offering a few unbeatable deals, including a $5 backpack. Yes, you read that correctly. Not $50—$5. That’s cheaper than a Chipotle burrito. It’s Target’s lowest-priced backpack in more than 10 years.

Target Summit Ridge Kids' Backpack

Summit Ridge Kids' 17" Backpack

The Summit Ridge Kids’ backpack is 17 inches high and suggested for ages 10 and up. It comes in six colors and patterns, so no matter your child’s style, they can express themselves with a bag they love. Options include: solid blue, pink daisies, black and yellow camo, purple doodle hearts, solid black, and green swirls with butterflies.

It’s simple and lightweight in construction, but still sturdy. (Necessary, considering all the school bus floors and lockers a backpack gets thrown around.) Its roomy main compartment will hold all the books, folders, and notebooks your kid needs, while the exterior features two bottle holders, adjustable padded straps, and a front zip pocket.

“Getting ready for a new school year is a busy time for teachers, students, and parents, so Target’s focused on making it affordable and easy for everyone,” said Rick Gomez, Target’s executive vice president and chief commercial officer. “Target’s taking the stress out of the season so families can focus on the excitement of a new school year.”

Go ahead, cross “backpack” off your shopping list. Now, if only finding affordable clothes your kids would actually wear were that easy…
