Fabrizio Romano has delivered an update on the transfer rumour mill surrounding Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.

Conor Gallagher’s future continues to be the subject of speculation

Tottenham appear not to be frontrunners for the English international with Romano claiming that Atletico Madrid have now moved into pole position with their interest in the race to sign the player.

Even though we are technically just a few weeks into the summer transfer window, the Gallagher transfer saga has already taken plenty of twists and turns.

The Times reported two weeks ago Villa and Tottenham are still keeping an eye on the 24-year-old’s situation as he is no closer to signing a new contract at Chelsea.

However, the report suggested that the Blues want £50m for their academy graduate, which Spurs have no intention of paying.

Meanwhile, journalist Ben Jacobs told The London is Blue Podcast just last week that Tottenham are the only team showing concrete interest in signing the England international at the moment.

Atletico make contact for Gallagher

However, if Romano’s latest update is to be believed, Atletico have now emerged as ‘the most interested club’ in the race for Gallagher.

The La Liga giants have now allegedly reached out to Chelsea to explore a potential move for the midfielder.

Romano took to X to write: “Understand Atlético Madrid remain the most interested club in Conor Gallagher this summer.

“Atléti have made contact with Chelsea for Gallagher as he’s one of the names in the shortlist.

“Not an easy deal as still expensive — but Atlético interest is genuine.”

Spurs Web Opinion

We will know once the Euros are over just what is going to happen with Gallagher ahead of next season.

At the moment, it looks uncertain whether Chelsea are going to offer him a new deal and I would expect Tottenham to test the waters with an offer for the midfielder.
