AUSTIN (KXAN) — It was quite a run for former Texas Longhorns tennis player Lulu Sun at Wimbledon.

After winning three qualifying matches to get into the Grand Slam event and then claiming four consecutive matches to become the first Texas player to reach the quarterfinals at a major, Sun bowed out in three sets to Croatia's Donna Vekic.

Sun grabbed the first set 7-5 but dropped the remaining sets 6-4, 6-1 to the No. 37 player in the world. Vekic made the most out of her first serve, winning 87% of her points with 11 aces.

With her appearance in the quarterfinals, Sun more than doubled her career earnings. Coming into Wimbledon, she amassed just over $313,000 in earnings and banked roughly $470,000 at the All England Club alone.

Sun played for the Longhorns in 2021 and helped lead the team to a NCAA team championship over Pepperdine. In the NCAA doubles tournament the same year, she finished runner-up with teammate Kylie Collins.
