ValleyCats to host Tunnel to Towers fundraiser

A nationwide organization that supports families of fallen military service members and first responders is partnering with the Tri-City ValleyCats for a fundraiser.

TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A nationwide organization that supports families of fallen military service members and first responders is partnering with the Tri-City ValleyCats for a fundraiser. Tunnel to Towers is bringing its 9/11 Never Forget exhibit to Joe Bruno Stadium in Troy on August 6.

The interactive exhibit pays tribute to the thousands of people who lost their lives in the 2001 attacks, including those who continue to lose their lives to illness. Tunnel to Towers was created to honor a firefighter who died on 9/11.

Tunnel to Towers provides housing to military veterans, first responders and their families. Organizers said the ValleyCats provide a great platform for them to spread awareness.

"We need to pack the house," retired Troy fire captain Gary Favro said. "That's what we need to do because that's how we can make some money, and this is a great venue. Family friendly, safe place."

A portion of ticket sales will go toward the organization. Veterans and first responders will be honored before the game. There will also be a postgame fireworks show.
