Christodoulides in Athens to commemorate invasion

President Nikos Christodoulides is to travel to Athens on Wednesday to participate in events which will mark the 50th anniversary of Turkey’s invasion of Cyprus.

At noon, he will lay a wreath at Athens’ memorial to the fallen in Cyprus, which is located in the Army Park in the neighbourhood of Goudi, alongside Greece’s military chief General Dimitris Houpis.

He will then inaugurate a photographic and multimedia exhibition centred on Famagusta, created by journalist Sotiris Danezis, at the Melina Mercouri cultural centre in the neighbourhood of Thiseio.

His final port of call in Athens will be a commemorative event organised by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where he will give a speech, before returning to Cyprus on Wednesday evening.
