Lionel Messi Finds Net as Argentina Beat Canada to Reach Copa America 2024 FINAL

New Jersey: Lionel Messi found the back of the net of a deflection in the second half which helped Argentina double their lead on Tuesday against Canada to make it to the Copa America 2024 final. Argentina beat Canada 2-0 at the at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Julian Alvarez opened the scoring in the 22nd-minute.

Álvarez got a pass from Rodrigo De Paul, got behind a Canadian defender, and set himself again for a shot into the back of the net. With the strike, Álvarez became only the second Argentina player in history to score in both a World Cup semi final and a Copa America semi final. Lionel Messi is the other player.

Messi scored of a deflection in the 51st-minute to take the game away from Canada. It was also Messi’s first goal of the tournament.

“It’s crazy what this group did, what the Argentine National Team has been doing,” Messi said after the game. “After this, much more importance will be given to all the finals that I and all of the old group had to play in.”

Messi’s Argentina started their semi-final against Canada as a favourite and they lived up to the billing. Argentina will now feature in the summit clash in Miami on Sunday where they lock horns with the winner of Colombia and Uruguay.

There was a massive crowd that came to watch the semi-final. Approximately, 88,102 fans attended the semi finals between Argentina and Canada at Copa America.
