The Everton Forum • Re: Jarrad Branthwaite

It's weird but lots of people aren't capable of putting themselves in somebody else's shoes and imagining what their perspective is and why they might think/feel that way.

So with Man U fans and the Man U media, they aren't even necessarily trying to be dicks. They often don't seem aware of their own biases. They see the situation quite plainly as ''we're the bigger club, we're going to pay plenty of money for him, of course he wants to come here. That's the natural order of things and the deal will be done''.

They don't look at it from Everton's perspective at all. They don't consider that we don't need to sell him. They don't consider that we'll be more than happy if he stays here for at least another season. They look at it as ''Everton are over-charging us because we're Man Utd, and everybody tries to take the piss in the transfer market with us''. Again, only considering the entire thing in relation to how it affects them, and what is says about them. Kinda like a narcissist.

I suppose it's the nature of privilege to not even consider that your perspective might not be the only one that matters. Also, living in an echo chamber surrounded by other people who have the same biases doesn't help.

Maybe we do the same thing when we're buying from a smaller club? I don't know. I don't feel like we do really. I think we look at other club's forums and ask ''do they want to sell him?'' or think ''they're asking for this amount of money because he's really important to them?'' etc etc.
