The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations reports that nearly two thousand Afghan migrants have been deported from Iran and Pakistan.

The ministry stated in a newsletter on Wednesday, July 10, that around 1,808 Afghan migrants re-entered the country after being deported by the governments of Pakistan and Iran.

According to the newsletter, those expelled entered the country via the borders of Torghundi, Spin Boldak, Islam Qala Herat, and Nimroz’s border with the Silk Road.

This is despite ongoing international reactions to the continued deportation of Afghan migrants from Iran and Pakistan.

It’s noteworthy that Pakistan suspended the forced deportation of Afghan migrants after UNHCR chief Filippo Grandi met with Pakistani officials.

The UNHCR mentioned in a statement released on Tuesday, July 9th, that during his three-day visit to Islamabad, Filippo Grandi, the UNHCR High Commissioner, urged Pakistani authorities to show hospitality towards Afghan migrants.

He continues to call for strengthened efforts for long-term solutions for Afghans in Pakistan and support for their host communities.
