The box in question has just received a major update that fixes a number of problems.

This includes improvements so apps load faster and a fix for HDR so it doesn’t cause the picture to be overly saturated until a restart.

However, makers Manhattan have apologised for an ongoing problem affecting some recordings.

This only applies to some of the company’s most recent box model, the Manhattan T4-R.

It’s one of the few Freeview boxes that still allows you to record content that stays on your equipment, instead of saving it in the cloud.

The mysterious bug is triggered if you change the Standby Mode from Energy Saver to Sleep or Smart, according to the firm’s support website.

Although Manhattan says the flaw happens “infrequently” it has issued advice on how best to avoid missing recordings.

“While we’ve made significant progress with this update, one important issue remains,” the company explains.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as we work to resolve this issue.”

Fortunately, there is a very quick and easy way to avoid any recording havoc.

And that’s by keeping Standby Mode set to Energy Saver – so if you’ve switched yours in the past, now might be a good time to flick it back.

For those who may have forgotten how to do this, all you need to do is press the HOME button on your remote, then go to Settings > System > Standby Options.

“Since the problem happens so infrequently, it is taking longer to resolve than other issues,” Manhattan continues.

“We expect to have another update ready within the next 2-3 weeks to address it.”

The TV box maker has warned there is a glitch affecting Wi-Fi on some kit at the moment too.

This may result in the T4-R not reconnecting to the last Wi-Fi network automatically, requiring users to manually switch it on in the settings instead.

Manhattan says it aims to fix this in the next software update release.
