Everyone but the Lakers is making moves this offseason, huh?
But the Lakers did make one: They swapped JJ Redick for Darvin Ham.
By running it back otherwise, they’re telling us they really believe in their rookie head coach.

More on this storyline

For now, Jared Dudley’s coaching career will continue in Dallas. The Mavericks assistant spoke to reporters Monday, where he broke down why he decided to stick with the team despite garnering interest from other NBA squads. Dudley joined Jason Kidd’s coaching staff in 2021 after suiting up for 14 seasons in the NBA. “It’s not the time. For one, there’s unfinished business. For two, you gotta wait for the right opportunity. I’m not leaving Dallas. My family loves it here,” Dudley said. “That right opportunity hasn’t come yet for me to go. I always tell people that I’m in no rush. It’s not like I’m going anywhere for the money. I made a lot of money as a player so my whole thing is I’d rather be a year or two behind and take the right job and stay here.” -via Dallas Morning News / July 9, 2024
Cleveland is expected to have interest in several candidates to join Atkinson’s staff, including Johnnie Bryant, Jared Dudley, Trevor Hendry, and others, league sources told HoopsHype. Dudley and Hendry were with Atkinson, Ott, Carroll, Jarrett Allen, and Caris LeVert in Brooklyn. Dudley could remain with the Mavericks, but the Cavaliers are expected to inquire about reuniting him with Atkinson. Hendry was the video coordinator on Atkinson’s staff for three seasons with the Brooklyn Nets before he was promoted to assistant coach after Atkinson moved on from Brooklyn. -via HoopsHype / July 6, 2024

Michael Scotto: The Los Angeles Lakers are adding Greg St. Jean as an assistant coach to JJ Redick’s staff, league sources told @hoopshype. Jason Gallagher was the lead producer for new Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick’s ThreeFourTwo Productions projects, including the infamous Mind the Game podcast that Redick cohosted with new star player LeBron James. And while Gallagher understands the scrutiny the show received during the Lakers coaching search, he insists it was not part of some grand plan to install Redick as head coach. In an appearance on the Jenkins & Jonez podcast released Tuesday, Gallagher said the plan for Mind the Game came together organically, and the Lakers search never came up between James and Redick during production. -via Awful Announcing / July 4, 2024
