I’m a Euros legend marrying an Everton groundsman after our first IKEA date, but my winning goal trumps his proposal

LIONESS legend Chloe Kelly has opened up about her romance with fiance Scott Moore, including revealing they had their first-ever date in IKEA.

Chloe announced in December that Scott had popped the question, and the pair are planning to tie the knot at the end of July.

In an interview with Jamie Laing and Sophie Haboo on their NewlyWeds podcast, football legend Chloe, 25, revealed how she first met her husband-to-be when she was playing at Everton and he was a groundsman.

She held the door open for him, and he used that as an opening to slide into her DMs – but she didn’t see his message for a while as she didn’t follow him.

Once she realised who he was, and accepted his message, he got up the courage to ask Chloe out.

But she was in the middle of moving house at the time, and was waiting for her sister to take her to IKEA to pick up some bits she needed.

When she told Scott that, he ended up offering to take her – so they had their first date in the Swedish superstore.

“We got a little monkey and every time I see it it reminds me of when we went to IKEA,” Chloe grinned, as she said they also got a pair of drawers, which Scott then put together for her when they were back at hers.

Things went from strength to strength for the pair, even when Chloe introduced Scott to her five older brothers and older sister.

So when she was on camp with her team getting Lionesses rings made, Chloe decided to jokingly message Scott her ring size – without knowing that he’d actually been attempting to get her size from her friends in the meantime.

And when they went on holiday to Finland, it was the perfect opportunity for Scott to pop the question.

Chloe added she’d always made it clear to Scott that she didn’t want anyone around when he proposed, so was hoping there wasn’t a crowd when they went on a husky ride together.

However, she was completely unaware that Scott had booked a private trip – which he then used to propose.

“The woman with the huskies obviously knew,” Chloe recalled.

“And she pulled us to the side and was like, ‘Let’s take some pictures now so the Northern Lights are out… we might not get them when we get to the top’.

“So she’s taking pictures, and the snow is up here, so when Scott got on one knee he’s sunk right into the snow.

“It was amazing!”

Once she’d accepted Scott’s proposal, the newly-engaged pair were taken to a nearby teepee, inside which was a fire, a cheeseboard and bottle of prosecco for them to celebrate with.

“I couldn’t stop smiling. It was just such a happy moment!” Chloe gushed.

Host Jamie then asked Chloe which was a happier moment – when Scott proposed or when she scored the iconic game-winning goal in the 2022 Women’s Euros against Germany.

“The wedding’s not been yet so I’m going to say the winning goal!” Chloe laughed, as Scott could be heard in the background jokingly saying, “the wedding’s off!”

“I think because the smile’s that it put on everyone else’s faces, seeing my family in the crowd, scoring the goal at Wembley – that was the hard work I’d put in throughout my career, the sacrifices my family had made to get me to that moment,” Chloe explained.

“And scoring the goal off the back of my ACL journey that I’d been on, it was more than just a goal.

“So I’m gonna say that.”
