Line Of Duty actor denies Strictly Come Dancing rumours – but teases co-star’s spot saying ‘she’ll have nation gripped’

A LINE Of Duty fan-favourite has denied a spot on Strictly Come Dancing – yet insisted his co-star would “have the nation gripped.”

They addressed furious speculation over the line-up for this autumn’s BBC show on Wednesday’s Good Morning Britain.

Actor Adrian Dunbar, 65, was grilled by ITV hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls, 57, about whether he would ever pull on the sequins and slap on the fake tan.

He said: “I don’t think so really,” before he added: “I’m actually not a frustrated dancer.

“I can do some dad dancing.”

Ed – whose Strictly stint and Gangnam Style routine with professional Katya Jones, 35, has gone down in show history – then joked how dad dancing can go a long way.

Yet when Susanna mentioned Adrian’s Line Of Duty co-star Vicky McClure, 41 – who has long been rumoured for the reality show – he let slip a secret.

He said of the Detective Constable Kate Fleming actress: “But she’s a very good dancer.

“She really is – but I haven’t talked to her about it.”

He then addressed the BBC in potentially signing her up and added: “If they can swing that, the nation will be gripped.”

Previously we exclusively reported how Strictly bosses were determined to try and benefit from the crime drama’s runaway success.

Our TV insider told us back in 2021: “Line Of Duty is the biggest show on telly by miles so Strictly producers would love to secure one of its stars to take part.

“They think Vicky would be amazing and that fans would love her so she is very high on their list of targets.”

Recently, we reported how the actress looked worlds away from her Line of Duty character in her new Paramount+ telly role.

Meanwhile, viewers were left “swooning” over her appearance during a recent interview on The One Show.

Additionally, Adrian told the GMB anchors how “we are all” up for a Line of Duty reunion.

He added: “I think so.

“It will be down to the BBC and Dr Jed [Mercurio, show writer] when and whether we do it.”
