Xbox players are devastated as Game Pass sees a huge price increase and no more day-one launches

XBOX Game Pass is one of the best ways for players to save money, giving people access to a huge library of games for one low cost.

One of the biggest benefits of Xbox Game Pass over PS Plus is that it brings many games on the same day they’re released, meaning subscribers don’t miss out on any gaming hype.

However, Xbox recently announced that it would be restructuring the subscription service, increasing the price of each tier, and removing day-one releases for some players.

Xbox Game Pass Core will remain largely the same, offering players the ability to play online and a library of around 20 games they can play for free.

The service will receive a small price increase, from £49.99/$59.99 for the year to £54.99/$74.99.

The changes to Xbox Game Pass for PC and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate are similar, with both seeing a price increase but no significant changes to the service.

PC Game Pass will rise from £7.99/$9.99 to £9.99/$11.99 a month, while Ultimate will be increased from £12.99/$16.99 to £14.99/$19.99 per month.

This price increase follows a previous Game Pass price increase that occurred in June 2023, meaning that Ultimate has seen an increase of more than 30% in the last 13 months.

The biggest change to Game Pass is that as of today, July 10, 2024, Xbox will be removing Xbox Game Pass for Console, possibly Game Pass’ most popular tier.

It will be replaced by Xbox Game Pass Standard, which will see a huge downgrade over the previous subscription.

Xbox Game Pass Standard will work similarly to how Xbox Game Pass for Console worked, except that it will no longer include day-one releases.

Not only this but it will see a huge price increase over the Console tier, going from £8.99/$10.99 per month to $14.99 (approx £10.99).

Those who are currently subscribed to the service can continue their subscriptions until September 18, 2024, after which all recurring subscriptions will shift to the new price.

Xbox Game Pass players are obviously upset by the news, as they will not only be paying more for their subscriptions, but will also often be receiving less.

Xbox has not given a reason for the price increase, but it is likely due to Activision Blizzard games being added to Game Pass, including Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which will be available on the day it launches.
