Summer films at a favourite Nicosia open-air theatre

Summer in the city goes hand in hand with movie nights. In Nicosia, at least. This year, the deputy ministry of culture and Theatre Ena are again hosting the Summer Screenings Marathon, which takes place, just like every summer, at the Konstantia Summer Cinema in Nicosia.

Under the summer night sky and with the nostalgic atmosphere of the open-air cinema, the Summer Screenings Marathon is revived at Konstantia, a charming and vintage cinema in Nicosia. For 25 years, it has remained one of the state’s most significant film institutions, both in terms of film education and enhancing the social and cultural life of the region. This summer again, from July 10 until September 8, cinephiles will have the opportunity to watch a unique cultural mosaic of films from all corners of the world.

The lineup includes award-winning films such as Fremont directed by Babak Jalali, Mother, Country written and directed by Alvaro Gago, Hypnotherapy directed by Ernst de Geer, Fallen Leaves directed and written by Aki Kaurismäki and Autumn written and directed by Özcan Alper.

As every year, Greek productions are also featured, such as the multi-awarded film The Murderess by Eva Nathena, based on the novel by Alexandros Papadiamantis as well as Cypriot directors’ films addressing the dark anniversaries of 1974: The Last Return written and directed by Korinna Avraamidou, and the documentary The Island We Share directed by Danae Stylianou. Young cinephiles will also get to enjoy the movie Mystery on the Animal Farm. All summer long, films will be on every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 9pm.
