Suspect arrested after chase with OKC officer has history of eluding police

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – A suspect Oklahoma City police say was arrested last month for evading and assaulting one of its officers has a recent history of trying to escape jail time.

Oklahoma City police shared June 30, 2024 body camera video of one of its officers making an arrest after a traffic stop near SE 44th Street and Bryant Avenue.

Police say Jordy Cifuentes jumped out of a car with a bag and took off, avoiding the officers commands to stop.

In the video, shared Tuesday, you can see the officer and Cifuentes appear to get into a skirmish on the ground. The officer tells Cifuentes multiple times to get on the ground and to get his hands off of her.

Cifuentes was eventually detained and booked into the Oklahoma County Jail on a number of complaints including assault and battery of a law enforcement officer and eluding police.

Oklahoma County court documents from last October detail a pattern of eluding authorities.

An affidavit signed in September 2023 says police tried to stop Cifuentes in a vehicle in April, but he took off at a high rate of speed and went into oncoming traffic to elude police. In September of the same year Cifuentes was caught and arrested with a loaded firearm on him. Documents say he shouldn't have had the weapon because he was a convicted felon.

The affidavit says during that arrest, Cifuentes resisted an officer, causing them to deploy a taser. Documents say once inside of the officer's vehicle Cifuentes had to be restrained because he was attempting to hit his head in the backseat.

Documents say Cifuentes was taken to a hospital for medical clearance and was handcuffed to a hospital bed during the process. After being handcuffed, an officer says Cifuentes was able to slip his hand out of the handcuff and attempted to flee the hospital on foot before being caught in an emergency room bathroom.
