7/10/2024: Heat, humidity, heavy rain, strong storms

The latest Storm Tracker Forecast from meteorologist Matt Mackie:

Hot and humid today, with potentially dangerous weather from the remnants of Hurricane Beryl.

Afternoon highs will be in the upper 80's for the Capital District and Mid-Hudson Valley, but it will feel more like the mid to upper 90's with the humidity factored in. A Heat Advisory is in effect for the areas highlighted below.

Showers, downpours, and stronger storms from this system move in around midday. As the afternoon progresses, the heaviest rain will drift towards the north.

That means higher rainfall totals, potentially 3 or more inches, for parts of the Adirondacks, North Country, and Vermont. A Flood Watch is up for those areas through early Thursday morning. Be careful driving out there this afternoon and evening - go slow, and never drive through flooded roadways.

We are all at risk for severe storms capable of producing damaging winds or isolated tornadoes this afternoon. The threat is greatest for the western Mohawk Valley, and back into Central New York and the Finger Lakes region.

Heaviest rain is out of here by midnight, though we will stay slightly unsettled into the day Thursday. Expect isolated showers and one or two afternoon pop-up storms. Humidity remains incredibly high, so it is by no means a comfortable feel.

Better for Friday and the weekend, with warm, muggy, but mostly dry conditions. A few showers and storms are back in the mix for Monday and Tuesday.
