'Time is running short': Pelosi still not sold on Biden staying in the race

President Joe Biden remained defiant this week by insisting that he was not going to drop out of the 2024 presidential election.

However, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) still does not appear to be sold.

Appearing on MSNBC on Wednesday, Pelosi was asked about whether Biden had her backing to continue running as the Democrats' standard bearer this year, and she sounded decidedly noncommittal.

Pelosi did praise Biden's record by calling him a "great president" who should "take great pride" in many of the historic pieces of legislation he's signed into law over the last four years.

However, Pelosi was less effusive in giving Biden an endorsement for the next four years.

"It's up to the president to decide if he is going to run," she said. "We are all encouraging him to make that decision because time is running short... He's beloved, he is respected and people want him to make that decision."

Pelosi was then reminded that Biden claims to have made the decision to seek a second term in the face of widespread apprehension from many Democrats.

Pelosi, however, still talked about the question like it was up in the air.

"I want him to do whatever he decides to do," she emphasized.

She then suggested that Biden be given space to deal with the current NATO conference and then make a final decision about the campaign.
