The moment the passenger bus lost control and hit the safety barrier before plunging down the gorge

The video was shot as the bus – packed with some 60 people – drove around a winding road in a hilly area of Gujrat.

One of the passengers was shooting the nature views from the window when suddenly the bus lost control at one steep bend and failed to make a full turn.

Horror footage shot by the person shows the bus crashing into a safety barrier before plunging down the gorge – with all the passengers onboard.

One official told NDTV: “Two children died after the bus with tourists jumped the protection wall and overturned around 5 pm.”

“The luxury bus was carrying tourists from Surat who had come to Saputara for a visit and were returning.”

Rescue workers said that it proved difficult to reach victims and it took several hours to complete the operation.

It comes after four people, including a one-year-old, died after a tourist bus plunged 40ft into a gorge in India.

Thirteen people were injured when the driver lost control of the vehicle near Mankulam in the state of Kerala.

The group were travelling from Theni and Erode in Tamil Nadu state to wildlife hotspot Anakkulam when the tragedy struck, police say.

The driver of the bus lost control at about 4.30pm local time resulting in the vehicle plummeting into the gorge, local reports said.

Thirteen people were rushed to hospital by both locals and fire and rescue services.

In November, at least 38 people were killed when a bus slid off a mountain highway in India and plunged 800ft into a gorge.

Nineteen others were left with critical injuries.

Emergency services searched through the wreckage for survivors and dragged them to safety.

There were at least 50 people on the bus when it fell from the side of the mountain.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent a message to the victims and their families at the time.

He said: “The bus accident in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir is distressing.

“My condolences to the families who have lost their near and dear ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest.”
