It’s completely free to upload clothes to the app and Vinted does not take a cut of sellers’ profits and instead charges buyers a small fee to purchase each item.

Hannah Bevington took to TikTok, to reveal her top tips for making cash on the site.

Increase Prices

The Vinted whizz’s first tip is to increase the prices of the items you are selling.

She said that often people sell things that are worth £40 for just a tenner and then get annoyed when customers offer them £8 for the item.

“Stop selling things for £10”, she said.

“The person buying the item will think you’re desperate for money.”

Big Portfolio

To make lots of cash on Vinted, Hannah revealed that you need to have a minimum of 100 items listed on your page.

She said: “It might mean that you spend every Sunday uploading items, but the more you have, the better chance you have of making regular sales and making a regular income.”

Clear Photos

Hannah said that to make sales, it is important that you take pictures in the bright daylight, and make sure to use a clear, white background.

She said: “If you’re taking something in the dark and it’s all pixelated, you’re not helping yourself.”

Don’t Accept All Offers

Hannah revealed that you should not just accept all of the offers you receive on Vinted, and should instead only accept them if they are 10-15% lower than the price on your listing.

The Vinted pro said that sometimes it will take months for items to sell, but added that eventually, someone will buy the clothes for the price you have listed them for.

She said: “I’ve been sent ridiculous offers and thought, I could do with the money now, but I’ve left it and then a few weeks later the items sells for what I wanted.”

Do you need to pay tax on items sold on Vinted?

QUICK facts on tax from the team at Vinted...

  • The only time that an item might be taxable is if it sells for more than £6,000 and there is profit (sells for more than you paid for it). Even then, you can use your capital gains tax-free allowance of £3,000 to offset it.
  • Generally, only business sellers trading for profit (buying goods with the purpose of selling for more than they paid for them) might need to pay tax. Business sellers who trade for profit can use a tax-free allowance of £1,000, which has been in place since 2017.

Hannah revealed that by using this tactic, you could see a difference of a few hundred pounds by the end of the year.

Free Packaging

The Vinted seller’s final tip is not to waste money on expensive packaging from the Post Office.

She revealed that instead, if you go on to eBay and type in ‘plastic shipping bags’ you can buy a bundle for extremely cheap.

Hannah’s video, which was posted under the username @hannahbevington, has likely left many people impressed as it has racked up over 85,000 views on the video-sharing platform.

TikTok users raced to the video’s comments section to share their thoughts.

One person said: “I absolutely agree about pricing.”

A second person said: “I’ve made about £900 since I started selling!”

A third person added: “Absolutely agree with all of these things.

“So many people charge far too little”.
