Biden campaign dismisses Trump golf challenge: 'Weird antics'

The Biden campaign dismissed former President Trump's comments at a rally Tuesday night, where he challenged President Biden to a golf match that would give him a chance to "redeem himself" after a poor debate showing last month.

“Joe Biden doesn’t have time for Donald Trump’s weird antics — he’s busy leading America and defending the free world," Biden campaign spokesperson James Singer responded to the invitation in a statement.

In his first political rally in days, Trump challenged Biden to another debate to take place this week — an offer that is impractical for Biden as he will be spending this week attending the NATO Summit in Washington, D.C.

“Let’s do another debate this week so that sleepy Joe Biden can prove to everyone all over the world that he has what it takes to be president,” Trump said Tuesday evening. “But this time it will be man-to-man, no moderators, no holds barred. Just name the place, anytime, anywhere.”

The presumptive GOP nominee then referenced an exchange during the June debate where he and Biden bickered over their golf handicaps. Biden at the time challenged Trump to a golf match "if you carry your own bag."

Trump suggested that a golf match with Biden be held on his golf course in Doral, Fla., and that it be televised. He added that he would give Biden a 20-stroke advantage and that if the president won, he would donate $1 million to a charity of the incumbent's choice.

“That’s why this evening I am also … officially challenging crooked Joe to an 18-hole golf match,” Trump said.

Singer took aim at Trump for not being on the campaign trail in the days following the debate.

“Donald Trump hasn’t been seen in public for 12 days, now he’s inviting fictional serial killers to dinner, teasing lil’ Marco Rubio, praising Project 2025 architect Tom Homan, and challenging the President of the United States to golf," the Biden spokesperson said.

“Donald Trump is a liar, a convict, and a fraud only out for himself — par for the course," Singer added.

Biden's debate performance sparked concerns from Democrats about his ability to beat Trump and serve a second term in office. Despite numerous calls for him to withdraw from the race, Biden has made it clear that he has no intention of dropping out.
