Tom Brady is expected to finalize soon a purchase of a minority stake in the Raiders thanks to some help from an old friend.

Former Patriots star Richard Seymour is on the verge of becoming an owner and limited partner in Las Vegas, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reported Tuesday citing “a source with knowledge of the situation.” Seymour and Brady, who played eight seasons together in New England, reportedly are “joining forces” to own 10.4% of the franchise, though they will work with their own partners in the deal.

According to Florio, adding Seymour and company to the transaction will “resolve most of the concerns about Brady’s bid.” The completion of the purchase has been delayed for some time, reportedly due in part to the discounted price Mark Davis offered Brady. At least 24 (75%) NFL owners would need to approve the move for Seymour and Brady to officially become minority owners.

Seymour, of course, has a personal connection to the Silver and Black. The legendary defensive lineman played the final four seasons of his Pro Football Hall of Fame career with the Raiders after winning three Super Bowls with Brady and the Patriots. The 44-year-old has stayed connected to the organization in retirement, as he was involved in the processes that led to hiring head coach Antonio Pierce and general manager Tom Telesco, per Florio.

Brady likely won’t be as hands-on with the Raiders as Seymour moving forward, as the former quarterback will start a new career as FOX’s top NFL color commentator in the upcoming season.
