It is suspected Tottenham Hotspur will look to sign a new striker this summer, and it seems the North London side have narrowed down their search to just two candidates.
Tottenham are still yet to replace Harry Kane
According to Football Insider reporter, Pete O’Rourke, Spurs are now looking at Ivan Toney of Brentford, and Santiago Gimenez, who flourished for Feyenoord last season.
It is claimed Spurs view the striker position as a “key area” they need to improve this summer and that they have been looking at this “for some time” now.
Tottenham regard both Toney and Gimenez as “ideal replacements” for Harry Kane, who joined Bayern Munich last summer.
Apparently, the Lilywhites have Gimenez on their list as a “long term target,” but they also view Toney’s “proven Premier League experience” as a big positive, too.
Sources suggest Toney will be allowed to leave Brentford this summer “if his price tag is met,” given he has just one year left on his current contract.
Heung-min Son mostly played the central role last season
The report adds that a third option for Tottenham could be to move Heung-min Son into a striker role next season, and sign a new wide player instead. That will all depend on budget, it seems.
Toney is expected to cost around £60m and Brentford are keen to cash in before his contract runs down (Sky Sports).
Gimenez, meanwhile, is regarded as a ‘top target’ for Spurs, but they will face competition from Italian giants AC Milan (Tuttosport via MilanNews).

After seeing Toney make an impact at Euro 2024 in the short amount of time he’s been given, I’m more convinced he is the man to lead the line for Spurs.
He’s the perfect forward for our system; someone who will stay high, press with energy, and can finish all kinds of chances that come his way.
