SP: Albany man arrested after fleeing traffic stop

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- An Albany man was arrested after fleeing state troopers at a traffic stop, per New York State Police. Dasir Sims, 23, faces several charges.

On Saturday, around 2:43 a.m., state troopers stopped a car on State Route 9 in Malta. Upon approaching the vehicle, police say the driver, later identified as Sims, fled. A chase was initiated, and a tire deflation device was successfully deployed.

Police say the car became disabled on I-87 in Halfmoon where Sims and two passengers were arrested. Police add that further investigation found Sims had an unlawful amount of cannabis and items with drug residue on them.

Charges:

  • Second-degree reckless endangerment
  • Third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle
  • Seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance (two counts)
  • Unlawful possession of cannabis
  • Driving while ability impaired by drugs
  • Several vehicle and traffic law violations

Sims and the two passengers were taken to Saratoga State Police. The passengers were released, and Sims was processed after a drug recognition expert evaluation sample was taken to determine the drug content of his blood. He was issued an appearance ticket to return to the Halfmoon Town Court on July 24 and was released to a sober party.
