‘American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez’ premiere date set at FX

“American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez” finally has a premiere date. The 10-episode limited series will debut on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 10/9c on FX with two episodes, the network announced Wednesday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour. Subsequent episodes will drop weekly. All episodes will stream the next day on Hulu.

“American Sports Story” is the latest spin-off in Ryan Murphy’s Emmy-winning “American Story” anthology franchise. Based on the podcast “Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc.” from The Boston Globe and Wondery, the inaugural season follows the life of the former New England Patriots tight end who committed suicide in 2017 in prison after being convicted of murder.

Josh Andrés Rivera, who was most recently seen in “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songs & Snakes,” stars as Hernandez. Patrick Schwarzenegger plays Tim Tebow and Norbert Leo Butz plays Bill Belichick. Other cast members include Jaylen Barron, Lindsay Mendez, Ean Castellanos, Tammy Blanchard, Tony Yasbeck, Thomas Sadoski and Jake Cannavale.

Murphy serves as executive producer alongside Stuart Zicherman, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, Carl Franklin, Hernan Lopez, Marshall Lewy, Linda Puzzuti Henry and Ira Napoliello.

“American Sports Story” was first announced in August 2021, along with another spin-off, “American Love Story,” which has yet to be produced.
