Cup of Coffee: Dobbins dominant, Campbell ropes two doubles in Portland win

: The Sea Dogs had a great night offensively and on the mound. Hunter Dobbins (pictured) led the way with six shoutout innings, while Kyle Teel and Kristian Campbell led the way on offense. Andy Lugo and Brooks Brannon also homered in Salem's loss.

Jason Alexander started for the Sox and took a tough loss, as he allowed two runs over five innings. He struck out four and walked three. Joely Rodriguez tossed a shutout frame before Chase Shugart threw two scoreless innings with one strikeout and no walks. At the plate, Nick Yorke went 2 for 3 with a walk, raising his batting average to .330 with the WooSox. Bobby Dalbec provided the only run with a sacrifice fly. Matthew Lugo had two hits and Niko Kavadas added a two-bagger.

Eight of Portland's nine starters had at least one hit, and five had multi-hit nights. Phillip Sikes was 2 for 4 with his fifth long ball of the season, as well as his 12th stolen base. Kristian Campbell reached base three times with a pair of doubles and a walk. Blaze Jordan added an RBI single and an RBI double, while Kyle Teel collected two singles. Eddinson Paulino also doubled home a run, singled, and had a sacrifice fly. Hunter Dobbins was great, firing six shutout innings. He only allowed three hits, struck out six, and walked just one on the way to his sixth victory of the season. Caleb Bolden picked up the two-inning save, his first save of the year.

This game was postponed due to rain and will be made up on July 11 as part of a doubleheader.

Andy Lugo was the star of Salem's offense, going 2 for 4 with his first home run of the season and three RBI. Brooks Brannon had a great night as well with a double and his third home run of the year. He now has an .857 OPS in 22 games with Salem this year. Nazzan Zanetello was 1 for 4 with a walk. Noah Dean started and struggled, allowing seven runs (six earned) in four innings. On the positive side, he struck out eight and walked just two. Max Carlson was terrific out of the bullpen, tossing three shutout innings with five strikeouts and two walks. His ERA is down to 2.18 with 58 strikeouts in 41 1/3 frames. Luis Talavera pitched the final inning and allowed just an unearned run with two strikeouts.

The scoring to started immediately for the Sox, as Franklin Arias walked to begin the game and came around to score on Starlyn Nunez' double. Kleyver Salazar roped a RBI single as well.  Raimundo De Los Santos had a productive day, going 1 for 3 with a single and two stolen bases. He now has 21 thefts on the year. Wuilliams Rodriguez was phenomenal in his start, allowing just one run on three hits in four innings. The righty struck out a season-high five hitters and did not walk anybody. Denis Reguillo finished off the final three innings, surrendering just one run. He struck out did with no walks.

This game was suspended in the top of the fifth inning. The Sox had just two hits, singles from Alexander Mambel and Edwin Brito. Merlin Bido pitched very well over the first three innings, as he did not allow a run on four hits. He punched out a pair. Greider Colina also pitched a clean inning without allowing a run, a hit, or a walk. It will be resumed on August 10.

Player of the Day: Hunter Dobbins takes it with one of his best starts of the season. It was the second time this year that he has gone at least six innings without allowing a run, and the third time he has stuck out six with one or fewer walks. In 71 2/3 innings this year, Dobbins has a 3.64 ERA and 66 strikeouts.
