Biden leads Trump among Asian American voters, but sees drop from 2020: Poll

President Biden is leading former President Trump among Asian American voters, according to a new survey from Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote (APIAVote), AAPI Data, Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC and AARP.

The poll found 46 percent of registered Asian American voters said that they would “be inclined to” to back the president in a hypothetical matchup occurring that day. This is down from 2020, when 54 percent of Asian American voters said they were leaning towards backing Biden in similar APIA polling.

Just 31 percent of those polled said they would “be inclined to” back Trump, but that is is one percent higher than the percentage of Asian American voters who said they were leaning towards backing Trump in 2020 in the same polling.

Vice President Harris, of Indian descent herself, started an initiative to engage with Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) voters on Tuesday.

“Like so many, we were raised, all of us, to understand the value of hard work, the importance of community, and the duty we all have to have some level of concern and care about the well-being of other people and our duty to then do something about it,” Harris said in a video posted on the social platform X.

The survey also found that 90 percent of Asian American voters said they are “planning to vote” in the fall elections.

The survey was conducted between April 4 and May 26 and featured 2,479 registered Asian American voters. According to Karthick Ramakrishnan, the executive director of AAPI Data, the survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.7 percent.
