Marc Cucurella responds after ‘disrespectful’ fans spent entire game booing him during Spain’s Euro 2024 win over France

MARC CUCURELLA has hit back after being booed during Spain’s Euro 2024 semi-final win over France.

The defender was taunted with every touch he took, though his tormentors did not come from the French contingent.

Marc Cucurella hit out after he was booed by fans
German fans booed the defender as they felt he should have been penalised for handball in their match in the previous round

Instead, it was the German fans watching on in Munich who dished out some harsh treatment to Cucurella.

The Chelsea star was asked about the booing after his side secured a 2-1 victory, and he offered a mature response.

Cucurella told Spanish radio station Cadena Cope: “These are things that happen, I’m not to blame for anything, I don’t know what they were trying to achieve with that, but that’s the way it is.

“The most important thing is that we’re in the final, and that’s it.”

Cucurella, 25, was likely booed because German fans believe he handballed inside the penalty area against Der Mannschaft in the previous round.

A shot from outside the box struck Cucurella on his left hand but he was not punished as the match officials judged his arms to be in a natural position.

The game was tied at 1-1 when the controversial call was made.

And Spain would go on to win the game with a dramatic 119th minute winner courtesy of Mikel Merino.

Some German fans still felt aggrieved and made their feelings clear to the left-back.

His team-mate Daniel Vivian also hit out at fans, saying: “No player deserves this, I think if you come onto a football pitch to boo someone, you have no respect for someone who is doing their job.”
