The Kings are excited to announce the signing of twenty year old forward Kurt Gurkan for the upcoming season.
“Kurt will bring a nice consistent and calming energy to our forward group” says assistant G.M. Stephan Seeger Jr. “Kurt is a strong young man with speed who has a lot of junior experience under his belt.”
Gurkan is from Darien Connecticut and is committed to Yale for the 2025-26 season. The forward spent last year in the AJHL with the Blackfalds Bulldogs and Drayton Valley Thunder where he collected 12 goals and 13 assists in 44 games. Prior to his time in the AJHL the veteran forward played 19 games for the Vernon Vipers during the 22-23 campaign and in those games he had a goal and 4 assists. “He will play both a responsible and flexible role in our lineup at center and wing” adds Seeger Jr. “we are very happy to have been able to add Kurt this offseason.”
Gurkan will be reunited with current King Christian Maro in Powell River. The two played together at Phillips Exeter Academy in 2021-22. The new King served as team captain that season and was the leading scorer with 38 points in 28 games.
