DEC announces outdoor accessibility upgrades and map

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced the completion of more than $5M in recreation upgrades and a new map to access the new recreation features, meant to enhance the experience of those with disabilities.

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced the completion of more than $5M in recreation upgrades and a new map to access the new recreation features, meant to enhance the experience of those with disabilities.

The new accessible recreation destinations map gives 266 destinations across the state. The recreation upgrades include accessible boat launches, fishing platforms, campsites, trails, boardwalks, and more.

“DEC welcomes outdoor adventurers of all ages and abilities to visit New York’s world-class State lands and is committed to expanding accessible outdoor recreation opportunities throughout the state,” DEC Interim Commissioner Sean Mahar said. “With easy-to-use enhanced mapping features and ongoing accessibility infrastructure improvements, DEC is working hard to ensure everyone can find and enjoy the abundant recreational opportunities and facilities in communities across New York State.”
