AUSTIN (KXAN) — Amid Tuesday's Spectrum outage across Texas, Google Trends picked up a spike in search queries related to Google Fiber service access. As Google Fiber continues to build out its national network, where can you find the service here in Texas?

Currently, Google Fiber is available at certain addresses in 24 cities across the country, per its service map. Included in the mix are portions of both Austin and San Antonio, where a spokesperson said there are "hundreds of thousands" of existing customers.

Google Fiber is also building out its fiber network in dozens of more communities nationally, including new additions here in Central Texas.

Just weeks ago, Lakeway City Council approved June 17 an agreement with Google Fiber to expand access into the community. Construction is expected to begin by late 2025; Lakeway customers' access to the service will be dependent on when portions of the Lakeway network are completed in their respective neighborhoods.

The Cedar Park Chamber of Commerce announced May 9 that Google Fiber would bring its internet service access to Cedar Park. Construction is poised to begin in Cedar Park next year, with services available for some residents and business owners come early 2026.

Elsewhere in the Austin metro, construction on Google Fiber access in portions of Round Rock began back in September, following Round Rock City Council's approval of the initiative in October 2022.

Curious if you have access to Google Fiber at your business or residence? Prospective customers can use Google Fiber's availability search tool to find out.
