New disturbance pops up near Florida's east coast

The National Hurricane Center is tracking a new tropical disturbance that popped up near Florida's east coast on Wednesday.

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The National Hurricane Center is tracking a new disturbance that popped up near Florida's east coast on Wednesday.

The NHC said it's watching a broad trough of low pressure off the southeastern U.S. coast producing some disorganized showers and thunderstorms.

"The environment is not very conducive for development at this time, but it will continue to spin for a couple of days. This will bring an increased chance for showers and storms Thursday and especially Friday morning with tropical moisture nearby. It will then move toward the Carolinas, away from Florida, and not impact our weather this weekend," Max Defender 8 meteorologist Amanda Holly said.

The NHC said the system will move inland over the southeastern U.S. by this weekend.

It only has a 10 percent chance of developing over the next seven days.
