Queen Camilla and Catherine, Princess of Wales, may be battling over a fashion issue. So, there seems to be a clash of some kind behind closed doors at Buckingham Palace: a fashion war based on the color that both Camilla and Catherine, better known as Kate Middleton, often opt for. If you’re as obsessed with royal fashion as we are, then you know both Camilla and Kate wear blue ensembles, but now, it seems Camilla is trying to make a particular blue color synonymous with her brand.
According to a close source who recently spoke with Daily Express via MSN, Camilla “ruffled a few feathers” because she banned both Kate and Sophie Wessex from wearing blue at royal engagements.
“The Queen is now able to choose her outfits before all the other women in the royal family. It’s part of the royal pecking order and that includes the clothes and color,” the source said. “Her Majesty’s favorite color is blue and so is Kate’s. Sophie is also quite fond of it.”
They added that the dresser to the Queen Jacqui Meakin apparently had uber-hard rules about Kate and Sophie wearing the same color as Camilla. “There was a time when Jacqui [Meakin] was a bit apprehensive to allow blue to be worn at the same time as the Queen, but she’s relaxed that now as long as the blues are very different shades,” they added. “In the end, it all became a bit comical with all the ladies seeing the funny side.”
So, apparently, Camilla’s dresser Meakin wouldn’t let anyone wear the same color, but now, it’s been downgraded to that no one can wear the same shade of blue as Camilla at royal events.
But this has caused quite a stir because Kate’s quite known for her blue looks. In fact, in fashion expert Rosie Harte’s book The Royal Wardrobe, she wrote about the color theory behind the Prince and Princess of Wales’ clothing.
“Blue is a more palatable alternative to the colors traditionally associated with royalty, being far less aggressive than red and significantly more conservative than purple,” she said in an excerpt obtained by DailyMail. “It has associations with peace and also modernity, making it a perfect representation of the Waleses’ quest to appeal to both traditional and progressive values in society.”
While Kate has been mostly out of the public eye while she undergoes preventative chemotherapy, we may be seeing her in less blue when she returns.
