Pair of juveniles stuck on cliff rescued at Chapman Point

Two juveniles were rescued from a cliff at Chapman Point in Cannon Beach, Oregon, after they had been stuck on the side of the cliff for several hours.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Two juveniles were reunited with their families after getting rescued from a cliff at Chapman Point late Monday afternoon, according to Cannon Beach Fire District.

Officials reported the pair had been “stuck on the side of the cliff” when rescue teams arrived on the north side of the beach around 4 p.m. Several rope technicians attempted to save them while a rescue swimmer and a lifeguard swam into the cove in case they fell off the cliff.

Both were eventually lifted off the cliff with a harness system and returned to their families with minor injuries.

“We would like to remind the public that climbing the cliffs is inherently dangerous,” the fire district said in a statement. “They are steeper than they appear and are shale rock. Stay on marked hiking paths and do not deviate from them. They are there for your protection.”
