Winner claims $1M Powerball prize in Kansas

The search for the $1M mystery Powerball winner in Kansas is over!

TOPEKA (KSNT) - One lucky person cashed in a winning Powerball ticket valued at $1 million in Kansas Wednesday one day after 27 News published an article about the prize's deadline approaching.

Cory Thone with the Kansas Lottery told 27 News the $1 million prize was claimed anonymously just before noon on July 10. The winner walked away with $710,000 following the usual 5% state tax and 24% federal tax on the money. Its winning numbers were 1-7-46-47-63 with a Powerball of 7.

"I guess the player’s ears must have been burning, because this ticket was claimed this morning just before noon," Thone said in a written statement.

Due to the prize's value, the retailer that sold it gets a $1,000 selling bonus. The ticket was sold at True Lies LLC located at 607 Oil Hill Road in El Dorado. This is listed as a bar and grill on the the business' website.

The $1 million ticket was set to expire one year after it was sold on Sept. 27. If the winner had not come forward before this, the prize money would have gone back to the Kansas Lottery.
