'Showing up with brass knuckles': Dem isn't pulling his punches with Pro-Biden support

Sen. John Fetterman might not wear a suit, but when it comes to throwing support behind President Joe Biden, he's more than ready to make a change to his wardrobe.

"I'm showing up with brass knuckles," Fetterman told Huffington Post political reporter Jennifer Bendery Wednesday. "I'm not going to advise the president on anything other than, 'Stay in. You're our guy. And I have your back.'"

Fetterman was referring to a Thursday meeting between top Biden aides and Democratic Senators concerned about the president's ability to defeat Donald Trump, the former president and convicted felon, in the 2024 presidential election.

Those concerns erupted from Biden's poor debate performance and have been fueled by calls from the New York Times editorial board and Hollywood stars such as George Clooney that the incumbent president step aside.

Biden has adamantly refused to do so, arguing one bad debate performance can't undo the accomplishments of his administration.

Voters, politicians, and even a former Trump administration member continue to affirm their support for Biden and note the accusations levied at the 81-year-old candidate could and should also be pointed at the 78-year-old one.

Trump has also made rambling remarks that raised concerns about his mental faculties but has not yet been subjected to a New York Times editorial demanding he stand down — although they did admit in a follow-up condemnation of Biden that they think he's also unfit to run.

On Wednesday, Bendery questioned several Senators about where they now stand and received an array of replies, none as forceful as Fetterman's.

"I still believe he can win this election," Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) reportedly told Bendery. "I think we should give voters maybe more credit than we're giving them...Their opinion about a person doesn't turn on one performance."

"How are you feeling about Biden staying on as your party's presidential nominee?" Bendery asked Sen. Cory Booker. He replied, "I have very strong feelings that Fetterman rocks."
