'Do you have no shame?': Outrage as 'fake electors' head to GOP Convention as delegates

A new report that shows so-called "fake electors" will head to the Republican National Convention as delegates sparked outrage on social media Wednesday as critics collectively asked, "Do you have no shame?"

Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico and Wisconsin — nearly all of which are considered swing states — have all sent "fake electors" and others who tried to overturn the 2020 presidential election to represent their state parties at the convention, slated to begin Monday in Milwaukee. That's according to CNN, which said it obtained state party-published lists and other documents.

The individuals have been selected to serve as national committee members, delegates, and alternates, CNN reported, and their goal is to formalize former President Donald Trump’s nomination to the party. Some even face criminal charges for their roles in schemes to overturn President Joe Biden's victory.

Convention spokesperson Anna Kelly told CNN that Republican activists elect convention representatives.

“State delegations are made up of delegates elected by their peers at the state party level,” said Kelly.

Electors typically gather in December after each election and formally cast votes for president and vice president. They send their votes to Congress to be counted, and that process is usually nothing more than ceremonial.

However, in 2020, people from seven states who called themselves electors tried to cast votes for Trump on Dec. 14, despite Biden's clear victory. These people cast votes to Congress the same as official electors. As those votes were counted Jan. 6, 2021, some lawmakers made the case that alternative votes proved Biden's win was still in doubt.

This year, Arizona's delegation includes three fake electors, including state Sen. Jake Hoffman who pleaded not guilty to his role in the scheme and was elected to be a GOP National Committee member.

In Georgia, a Jan. 6 rally organizer was selected for the committee, while four people facing prosecution in Michigan will head to Milwaukee as part of the GOP delegation, according to the report. That includes Meshawn Maddock, who has also pleaded not guilty to charges in the scheme.

The MAGA party and even the city itself received fierce criticism from the internet.

"Hey @cityofmilwaukee @MilwaukeePolice Your allowing a rapist, convicted felon..out on bail..fraudster..@realDonaldTrump be at the republican nominee at your convention..and now fake electors as convention delegaters?? And also a child rapist.." wrote @NeWeathereye. "Do you have no shame??"

"The 2020 fake electors are doing business at RNC. Convention," wrote @ChemicalsOil. "Talk about cheating...WTF!"

"Unbelievable. [face with symbols over mouth emoji]" said @MkdDebbie.

"Fake electors (you know, criminals) are now going to the RNC convention as delegates. The #GOP, taking their dishonesty cues from #Trump, are going down the rabbit hole. History will not be kind," said @Wildcs333.

"Project 2025 sponsorship. Fake electors as delegates. Kyle Rittenhouse as a possible speaker. The RNC is only highlighting GOP extremism ahead of next week's convention. Giving Trump's MAGA base exactly what it wants to see," said @WeathersbyWI.
