'He has a lot of word salad': Ex-GOP strategist calls out Trump and his far-right allies

Former Republican strategist Tim Miller highlighted the importance of those surrounding Donald Trump as he continues to ramble aimlessly through rally speeches.

While the press is focused on President Joe Biden's sharpness, reporter David Fahrenthold listed the people Trump is welcoming to Mar-a-Lago and how he has helped develop their fame.

MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace mentioned "the liability that is Project 2025," but now, the GOP also faces "the sort of crackpots that frequent Mar-a-Lago."

Miller also called out NBC reporter Vaughn Hillyard, who explained that Trump is attempting to walk away from not just Project 2025 but also his far-right allies. It's "pretty significant reporting," he said.

"It's something we know, but having it out of the horse's mouth that he says these guys will do it blueprint, I think, provides more ammo to the Democrats and forces trying to stop Donald Trump because these aren't popular policies. The other reality is we know these two things are linked. A lot of these officials around the Heritage Foundation and other groups — they're the type of people that staff a Trump administration."

Miller explained that Trump isn't one for details, so handing over the reins to some unknown deputy undersecretary to enforce his demands at the Department of Health and Human Services isn't a priority.

They will be the ones enforcing "all of these scary policies that the Heritage Foundation and others are laying out," said Miller.

But he also wanted to add a different layer to the discussion, and it is that Trump gave a big shoutout to Laura Loomer, a far-right activist that Trump brought on to rally the fringe followers in the base.

"She said on her podcast she wasn't a white ethnic state," Miller said of Loomer. "She has advanced conspiracies that mass shootings are false, and it's important to understand who will be in Trump's ear and who will be staffing his administration.

"So, you know, because Trump is Trump, right? He has a lot of word salad; I think it's incumbent on us to listen to the people who are around him," Miller said, suggesting the GOP candidate's lack of mental acuity.

It goes for both Project 2025 and "the hangers-on like Laura Loomer, who is around him at the various Florida clubs," he explained.

Wallace called the "hangers-on" an "understatement" when it comes to such individuals.

She called Loomer "so toxic to the kinds of voters that Trump needs to win."

"Trump is doing things that make it clear that the people around him think that next week is about a grab for the independent voter, some of whom moved away from him between Charlottesville, the insurrection and the conviction, right?" Wallace continued. "So, he's shaved off some of the toxic edges so he can stand there and say things I won't take away a woman's right to choose. Yes, he will. His code is 'leave it to the states.' The platform also removes a ban on marriage equality. ... Laura Loomer is like ten train stops beyond right-wing extremism."

Loomer is only one example. Fahrenthold's report details people like Kari Lake, Michael Flynn, and others who will be part of Trump's new administration.
