SGBV: LAGOS DSVA ENGAGES MEMBERS OF OJODU COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE

… Warns Against Concealing Sexual Offences

Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) recently engaged members of Ojodu LCDA’s Community Development Committee (CDC) during their monthly meeting to further propagate the SGBV message.

In keeping with the Agency’s mission to eradicate sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), the Executive Secretary, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi stressed the value of ongoing communication with CDAs, emphasising that concealing a sexual offence is punishable under the law and could warrant a three-year jail term.

She, therefore, urged participants to speak up on sexual incidents promptly as required and report when such situations occur within their community to ensure justice is served to perpetrators of SGBV crimes.

The Agency’s Community Engagement Representative, Ms. Opemipo Ogunse also briefed participants on the gravity of sexual and gender-based violence and outlined the reporting guidelines.

She described the agency’s services, cooperation with the Police Family Support Unit (FSU), and appropriate reporting procedures. Additionally, SGBV awareness materials were distributed to the attendees including the toll-free number 08000 333 333 for reporting cases.

Welcoming the visiting delegation, the Chairman of the CDC, Pastor Segun Fayemi explained the organisation’s goals and objectives while expressing gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for taking the lead in the fight against SGBV in the State.

He promised, on behalf of other members of the CDC, that the organisation will continue to render all necessary support of the Agency towards ridding the State of the menace of SGBV.
