Panic at Norman restaurant 'The Mont' after chemical is allegedly sprayed in the air

NORMAN, Okla. (KFOR) — A night at 'The Mont' quickly went south after an unexpected alleged chemical was blasted into the air.

Lydia LeTarte who lives in Norman, was spending her evening at the restaurant with friends.

"We were just sitting down eating dinner, and my nose started burning," said Lydia.

Lydia says that other customers who were also sitting in the patio area started gasping for air.

"They start covering their nose and coughing," said Lydia.

Those sitting on the patio started to panic and quickly rushed inside the restaurant. The panic was allegedly caused by a toxic chemical in the air.

General Manager, Patrick Kallin tells News 4, "Somebody drove by, we don't know if it was pepper spray, bear spray, or even something more toxic, but it got some people sick."

According to the police report, customers described a "big puff." Unsure if it came from a motorcycle or a person walking by.

Kyle Hurley, Director of EMSSTAT released a statement to News 4.

"Norman Regional EMSSTAT responded at 9:50p.m. Monday to a 9-1-1 call at The Mont in Norman. Emergency medical services arrived on the scene and assessed a patient. No one was transported."
