Drive-thru customer ‘shoots dead manager in fight over paying with fake money’
A Sonic manager was shot dead after a fight with two women who allegedly tried to pay with counterfeit money in San Antonio, Texas.
A Fast food drive-thru customer allegedly shot dead the manager who gave her grief over trying to pay with counterfeit money.
Daniel Shrewsbury, 33, was killed outside a Sonic restaurant where he worked as a night manager around 9.30pm on Sunday, said the San Antonio Police Department.
Two women got into an altercation with Shrewsbury about covering the cost of their order with fake money, cops said.
That’s when one of the women allegedly shot him.
As the women fled the scene, Shrewsbury managed to get back inside the restaurant on Babcock Road near Eckhert Road in San Antonio, Texas.
Inside, he collapsed and was found later and pronounced dead by first responders.
Shrewsbury died just over a week before his birthday.
‘He’s not just known as a Sonic employee,’ his brother, Jojo Shrewsbury, told KSAT. ‘He’s more than that.’
His mother called her son ‘caring, loving’.
‘A lot of people loved my son,’ Peggy Cofield told the TV station. ‘I will definitely miss him every day, every second.’
No one had been arrested in connection with the crime as of Tuesday.
Police said they have identified the suspects and released photos of them on Monday captured from CCTV at the Sonic. One of the suspects wore a gold chain and black T-shirt and the other donned a white dress with floral print.
The same day, a makeshift memorial with candles was set up at the doorway of the Sonic.
Daniel’s stepfather, Dominic Cofield, said the suspect ‘took somebody from the community, like the people at his job, the regulars that go there’.
‘He didn’t deserve this,’ he said, ”Cause, like they said, he was a good kid.’
Daniel died just a few weeks after a McDonald’s employee was recorded allegedly shooting at drive-thru customers who complained about receiving the wrong order in Lakeland, Florida.
