Saddiq Bey to Washington

Free agent forward Saddiq Bey has agreed on a three-year, $20 million contract with the Washington Wizards, his agents, James Dunleavy and Jordan Gertler of Excel Basketball, told ESPN on Wednesday night. Bey, who is recovering from a torn ACL suffered late in the Atlanta Hawks’ season, returns to his hometown to join a Wizards franchise engaged in a full rebuild. Bey played high school basketball at the famed DeMatha Catholic in Hyattsville, Maryland.

Saddiq Bey’s three-year contract, once signed, will not include any team or player option, according to a league source. If Bey returns to form (or exceeds his prior form) after he recovers, the contract would be considered a great value bargain from the team’s perspective. – 10:02 PM

Saddiq Bey is rehabbing a torn ACL that he suffered in mid-March, and the Wizards’ expectation is that he’ll miss most of the 2024-25 season. But the team views him as a tough, hard-nosed culture guy who’ll help on the court after he recovers from the knee injury. @wojespn 1st – 9:57 PM

That Bey contract is a smart deal for Wizards. Won’t interfere with Sag for Flagg while ACL heals, and still young enough to be part of what’s next. – 9:29 PM

Bey — who is recovering from a torn ACL — averaged 13.7 points and 6.5 rebounds in 63 games for the Atlanta Hawks before the knee injury. At 25, Bey — a DC-area native — is a good long-term play for the rebuilding Wizards. – 9:26 PM
